What equipment will my player need?
As part of the registration fee, he will receive a personalized game jersey to keep, as well as a helmet, shoulder pads, and game pants that will be turned back in at the end of the season. We will have practice jerseys available for ordering at registration. Your player will be expected to have practice pants with pads, which we make available for purchase at equipment-handout day. Your player should also have a good pair of cleats, as well as a protective cup We also hand out free chinstraps and mouthguards as needed throughout the season, though most players choose to buy their own.
What are the other costs?
(See the question above) Aside from registration, players will be expected to have practice pants with pads, a protective cup and cleats. A practice jersey is also required, and if you select to purchase one on your own, we ask that it be black.
What are the available age categories?
The Cavaliers are proud to offer a wide-range of age groups for your player to find his/her best fit. We have 7 age groups: 5-6 year olds, 6-8 year olds, 7-9 year olds, 8-10 year olds, 9-11 year olds, 10-12 year olds and 11-13 year olds. Note that they all overlap by a year, this is so that we can place heavier or lighter-weight players into the right grouping to give them the best opportunity to compete against like-skill leveled and weighted players. Each of the groupings listed above has it's own maximum weight limit.
What's the difference between American and Federal?
As mentioned, the Cavaliers are members of the MMYFCL, which has a 5 different competitive divisions. All members of the MMYFCL field teams in the top competitive levels - National (slightly larger programs) and American (slightly smaller programs). Because we are a slightly smaller program, our 'first' teams are in the American division. The Federal division is made up of our second teams, which generally tend to be brand new kids to the sport. To be fair, there really isn't much of a distinction at all when you ask the kids about the level of competition on the field each week - everyone plays hard to win!
