Football & Cheerleading Registration - Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions   •   Cheer Questions   •   Football Questions

What is the difference between the WYFCP and the MMYFCL?
The WYFCP is the Winfield Youth Football and Cheer Program, and we are the Cavaliers Football and Cheer teams that you've heard so much great things about locally! We are proud members of the MMYFCL, which is the Mid-Maryland Youth Football and Cheer League, which is one of (if not the) strongest youth football and cheer leagues in the entire state of Maryland. The Cavaliers were founding members of the league from back in the days that the Carroll County Football League and the Mid-Maryland Football League got together to take youth football and cheer to the next level.

When does the season begin?
The season officially begins the first of August. That's when practices begin, and the first games are usually the last weekend in August / first weekend in September. According to MMYFCL league rules, teams are allowed to get together during the final week in July for a few days of non-contact conditioning without any pads, and most of our coaches encourage this.

How often are practices and games?
Before school starts, practices are 4 nights a week (Monday - Thursday) from 6pm till 8pm at Mayeski Park. Once school begins, practices are two nights a week, same time and place. (Cheerleading practices move indoors once the weather gets cold, check their FAQs for details.)  Games are mostly Saturdays, but since we have lights at our field we also occasionally have Friday night games.  Not all of the kids have Friday night games though, it depends on the schedule that the MMYFCL puts together and changes from year to year. In general, game times on Saturdays begin with the youngest age groups earlier in the day, progressing to the oldest kids playing into the evening.

How much is the registration fee?
We are competitively priced with a registration fee of $125 for registration + $40 for your player's personalized jersey to keep. As a Cavalier football player, your player will be given his/her helmet, shoulder pads and game pants for use during the season (a $168 value).

What are the other costs?
